Things to do in Zakopane
Until recently, many people outside of Poland weren’t too familiar with Zakopane but now it is becoming more and more popular especially with visitors to Krakow who want to sample what this winter capital of Poland is all about.
In winter, Zakopane often resembles a winter wonderland as it’s nestled deep in the south of Poland amongst the Tatry mountain range. In summer, Zakopane’s stunning natural scenery becomes a mecca for hikers and nature lovers.
If, like many people staying in Krakow, you decide to take the tour to the Zakopane thermal baths (actually in Chocholow) then please consider exploring more of what Zakopane also has to offer.
Krupowki Street
The main street of Zakopane is Krupowki Street where you will find plenty of shops, stalls, restaurants, bars and cafes.
River rafting
A popular activity for tourists to Zakopane for half a century. Rafting on the river Dunajec isn’t as scary as you might think and is an unforgettable experience.
The “Old Graveyard”
Perhaps not an obvious choice when you visit Zakopane but the Old Graveyard resembles something out of a fairytale with hand carved wooden grave markers lending a eerie but enchanting air to this beautiful cemetery.
The Snow Labrynth
Only open at a certain point in the winter season (for obvious reasons) the snow labrynth is a bit like a snow theme park with attractions focused on snow and ice, including the famous snow labrynth.
Morskie Oko
Morskie Oko lake or “Eye of the Sea” is a stunning lake in Zakopane that draws tourists all year around.
Though most people associate Zakopane with the thermal baths it is actually an extremely poplar national park throughout the year with plenty of hikes and walks through stunning scenery.
